Palm Desert Fourth of July Overview

Palm Desert’s annual 4th of July celebration kicks off at 7:15 p.m. at Civic Center Park with the U.S. National Anthem. Next, a concert entertains visitors until the main event at 9 p.m., when a 25-minute firework display lights the skies with “the rockets’ red glare.” Families are welcome to pack a picnic basket and blankets, or order something from onsite vendors. Visitors should also bring flashlights to light a path as they exit the park. Items not permitted include alcohol, portable grills and smoking.

Other Palm Desert Summer Events

Those who can’t make the Palm Desert Fourth of July event shouldn’t fret. It’s just one of many summer events in this California oasis. Flower lovers flock to Palm Desert for the annual Idyllwild Lemon Lily Festival to support this beautiful but threatened desert beauty. Nature hikes and walks, local cuisine, kids’ activities, native plant sales and more make this a fun family event.

In August, jazz fills desert air during the annual Idyllwild Jazz in the Pines. More than 24 musical groups perform on three stages, representing blues, jazz, and rhythm and blues. When not listening to the music or dancing, explore the work of local artisans and sample local delicacies. The event aims to change lives through music and celebrate students who attend Idyllwild Arts Academy. This boarding arts high school helps develop students in dance, fashion, film, theater, visual arts and more.
