Siesta Key Beach — a public beach located just 15 minutes south of Sarasota, Florida — was named one of the Top 25 Beaches in the World by Trip Advisor users in 2013 Travelers’ Choice Awards. Best Beaches 2013: Why Siesta Beach Made the List
Clean and well-groomed with lifeguard stations, Siesta Beach features fine sand called ‘sugar sand’ by Gulf Coast natives. Composed of 99% pure quartz, the sand feels as soft as baby powder underfoot. To add the the appeal, the beach offers several hundred feet of wading-depth water perfect for swimming or splashing with the kids.
Siesta Beach also offers numerous family-pleasing amenities such as shaded picnic areas, an on-site snack bar, restrooms with changing rooms, wheelchair access and children’s activities. A few top things to do include: swimming, bodyboarding, snorkeling, building sandcastles and soaking up the sun.
The only drawback at Siesta Key public beach is the parking – there’s not enough of it. To get a spot, arrive at the beach before 10 a.m. If the lot is full, drive to find another public beach access point. There are 13 total, many with limited parking.
Siesta Key Beach Vacation Rentals
Families enjoying a vacation in Siesta Key will also find plenty of room to set up umbrellas, toss a Frisbee, play volleyball, fly kites or go for a stroll. Some Siesta Key vacation rentals sit right on the beach or within easy walking distance, providing access without the crowds.
