Discover Jensen Beach: A Gem on Florida’s Treasure Coast

Named for the loss of a treasure-laden Spanish fleet that perished in 1715, when hurricane winds blew it onto beaches that line the southeast Florida, Treasure Coast still attracts divers hoping to discover Mexican gold, Peruvian silver and Columbia emeralds lost so long ago. Even today, beachcombers occasionally find coins and pottery shards from the shipwrecks as they walk Jensen Beach and Hutchinson Island after a storm. Learn more about the area.

Top Things to Do

While promise of ancient treasure attracted the first settlers to the area, today Hutchinson Island’s beauty and Jensen Beach’s small-town charm attract vacationers. Situated between West Palm Beach and Fort Pierce on Florida’s east coast, Jensen Beach is known for outdoor recreation.

Relax on pristine beaches and in parks and observe sea turtle nesting sites. In the water, try boating and water sports, scuba diving, championship golf courses, and inshore and offshore fishing.

When not playing in the sun, head to boutique shopping malls, indulge in local cuisine and attend the pineapple festival. Once heralded as the Pineapple Capital of the World, Jensen Beach celebrates its history with an annual pineapple festival in November. The event features carnival-style rides, live music and lots of local vendors.

Calling All Families

A favorite place to gather is Indian Riverside Park on the Indian River Lagoon. Children will love the interactive play fountain, while parents can visit fishing pier and mangrove boardwalk. Walking and cycling paths, landscaped gardens, swimming beach, and boat and kayak rentals make this an ideal place to pack a picnic and spend the day. The site also houses Children’s Museum of the Treasure Coast and offers tours of historic sites located on the grounds.

Looking for a dog-friendly beach? Walton Rocks Beach welcomes visitors and off-leash dogs that can roam and play. This spot remains one of the few beaches in Florida that let dogs have free reign, but owners should be responsible in picking up after them. Many recommend this beach to pet owners and praise the friendly locals and pets.
