Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Nosh on tangy Southern barbecue and other local goodies while watching the Murrells Inlet Boat Parade. Afterwards, wait for the fireworks to start at dusk. The popular Boardwalk at the Beach also hosts a fireworks show, or check out decorated carts during the annual Pawley’s Island Golf Cart Parade.
Charleston, South Carolina
Named one of the top 5 Independence Day celebrations by the New York Times, Charleston’s Blast at Patriots Point kicks off with a festival at 4 p.m. Enjoy live music, food and a Kidz Zone. Set to patriotic music, the fireworks display over the harbor begins at sundown. For an unforgettable experience, get seats on the flight deck of the USS Yorktown.
Gatlinburg, Tennessee
Nearly 100,000 visitors flock to downtown Gatlinburg for the Fourth of July Midnight Parade. After the event, rest up and prepare to come back for the annual River Raft Regatta, free concert and fireworks show. For over 40 years, this mountain town has celebrated July 4th in style.
San Diego, California
San Diego’s four barges prepare for Big Bay Boom, one of the country’s most dazzling pyrotechnic displays. Take a picnic and stake out a spot on the beach early, and enjoy the fireworks at 9 p.m. Top viewing spots include Seaport Village, Coronado Ferry Landing, Harbor Island and Shelter Island. Those with boats may also want to head out, bring dinner and enjoy the show.
