Eisenhower Mountain

Situated where San Jacinto Mountains meet Santa Rosa Mountain range, Eisenhower Mountain ranks as a must-see. This area has a 4-mile hiking trail that showcases blooming desert flowers in the springtime.

Once at the top — which is an elevation less than 2,000 feet — admire the view. From here, hikers see Indian Wells and Palm Desert, with San Jacinto Peak to the west. The trailhead is located within the grounds of Living Desert Zoo, which requires an admission fee before entering the trail. To add to the fun, visit the zoo first, then hike the trail. It’s two attractions in one convenient spot.

Lake Cahuilla Veterans Park

Housing over 700 acres, Lake Cahuilla Veterans Regional Park features spacious play areas and scenic mountain views. The park welcomes visitors to hike and horseback ride, but the main attraction is Lake Cahuilla. Measuring 135 acres on its own, the lake provides an ideal spot for daytime fishing and relaxing. However, guests should obtain a fishing license in advance.

Those who want to spend all day at the lake have access to over 50 hook-up campsites, barbecue grills and picnic facilities. Other fun things to do at Lake Cahuilla Park include volleyball and pickleball.
