A beautiful modern city on Canada’s west coast, Vancouver in British Columbia is wonderfully accessible and a great place to vacation — winter or summer. You’ll find plenty to do in Vancouver and hop-on, hop-off buses make it easy to get to the most popular attractions. Here are some of our favorites:
- Stanley Park. Vancouver’s best known piece of real estate, Stanley Park is a beautifully landscaped 400-acre green space surrounded by water on three sides. The seawall path around the park is popular with walkers and bikers, offering scenic views of the city and sea with plenty of great spots for a picnic. You can also circuit the park by horse-drawn carriage or hop-on, hop-off bus. Site of many special events, Stanley Park is also home to numerous attractions, including a swimming beach, children’s farm, Vancouver Aquarium, children’s spray park, Lost Lagoon Nature House, the park’s famous collection of totem poles, and several restaurants.
- Granville Island. A collection of trendy galleries, theaters and restaurants housed on a former industrial site, the island is home to an exceptional public market. A great place to shop for souvenirs, the market is a foodie’s delight. Pick up made-to-order sandwiches or fresh-made baguettes and have an impromptu meal on the sunny back patio where you can watch the river traffic while listening to local musicians. Buskars and musicians perform regularly on the island, adding to the fun.
- Yaletown. When the sun goes down, head to Yaletown. Just south of downtown, this is where you’ll find the trendiest restaurants and hottest nightlife.
- Grouse Mountain. Winter or summer, the gondola to Grouse Mountain is your gateway to outdoor fun. During the winter, enjoy skiing, ice skating, snow board terrain parks and sleigh rides. Summer offers hiking, zip lines, an exciting ride to the top of a wind turbine, nature walks and wildlife programs.
