Westfield Topanga in Los Angeles is less than a two-hour drive, which makes it a perfect spot for a day trip. One of the largest malls in California, dozens of stores give shoppers places to browse, dine and catch a movie. Anchored by Macy’s and Target, the mall features shops large and small and restaurants to recharge. Valet parking is available in two areas.

Located in Thousand Oaks, about 30 minutes away from Malibu, sits The Oaks Shopping Center. Shoppers enjoy free Wi-Fi and dozens of stores from big-box names to specialty shops. Macy’s, JCPenney and Nordstrom anchor this indoor mall, which also hosts a Muvico film series and kids’ workshops, as well as special store and restaurant events like trivia nights.

Malibu Country Mart sits in the heart of the Malibu Civic Center and aims to break away from traditional shopping experiences. Malibu’s main shopping attraction, the country mart features upscale boutiques, art galleries, restaurants and even an outdoor playground. Shoppers love roaming around two levels of shops and restaurants, free parking, and family-friendly events.

Malibu Surf Shack, the city’s local surf shack since 1972, is a top spot for surfing, kayaking and paddle boarding. The shop also offers lessons and tours for beginers. Pick up some local merch, and wave at the bright red truck if you see it cruising the area.

Only a 30-minute drive, Hidden Treasures is a vintage lover’s dream. The owner has been selling vintage clothing since the 1970s, and the store opened in Topanga in the ’80s. The colorful shop – in its purples, greens and whites – sits in a building dating to the 1930s, giving it extra charm.

Highly rated by Yelp reviewers, Flowers by Dan specializes in flowers for all occasions. The North Hollywood florist, Dan Codron, has worked with clients such as the Disney Channel, Steven Speilberg Kodak Awards and the Bel Air Hotel. With 35 years of arranging flowers for more than 10,000 weddings, Codron uses the freshest flowers for that special occasion.

This local gem has something unique: Fred, the owner. Locals rave about Miracle Appliance Parts and its knowledgeable owner who aims to fix appliance problems and supply parts. This neighborhood shop is a go-to for residents. Many customers, as the name suggests, claim Fred is a “miracle,” and knows everything there is to know about appliances. Even better, he’s affordable too.
